The Buna spring
The Buna erupts from a cavern at the base of a 200-metre cliff, producing a powerful emerald river almost instantly. The 200-metre cliff and the spring’s steady flow are why the tekke and bridge appear on almost every Herzegovina itinerary.
The tekke
The tekke (tekija) is a 15th-century Bektashi Dervish monastery built into the rock above the spring. Visitors can look inside the small prayer room and walk the terrace over the water.

How much time do you need?
Blagaj is a 30–45 minute stop for most people: walk the stone terrace, look into the tekke, sit with a coffee over the water. It is close enough to Mostar that some travellers do it as a standalone half-trip by taxi or bus, while others take it as the first stop on a Herzegovina loop.

Is there an entry fee for Blagaj Tekke?
The spring and the terrace are free to view. Entering the tekke itself carries a small fee, which is why some day tours include it and others only stop for photos.
How long should I allow for Blagaj?
About 30–45 minutes is enough for the terrace, the interior and a drink by the water. Add another 15 minutes if you want to walk along the Buna itself.
Is Blagaj worth it if I’m short on time?
Yes if you have half a day spare from Mostar — it is one of the shortest, highest-payoff detours in Herzegovina. If you only have a morning, prioritise Mostar’s Old Town instead.
