Plitvice Lakes Day Trip from Zagreb

The inland route — around two hours each way, with the watermill village of Rastoke folded in.

Quick facts

~130 km · ~2h each way · 9–10 hour day · Rastoke stop on most tours · entry ticket usually bundled · boat + train included.

The inland route

From Zagreb you approach Plitvice from the north, and almost every operator uses that to add a stop in Rastoke — a village where the Slunjčica river spills over a series of small waterfalls right between the houses, with 17th-century watermills still standing. It is a 20-minute wonder rather than a half-day, and it breaks up the drive nicely.

The day typically runs 9 to 10 hours: roughly 100 minutes to Rastoke, half an hour on to the park, several hours inside, and about two hours back to Zagreb.

What the guided day includes

  • Rastoke: a guided stop with free time for photos.
  • Park entry: bundled on most Zagreb departures — worth confirming, it is the single biggest variable in the price.
  • Guided walk: the classic route through the Upper and Lower Lakes, roughly 8.5 km of boardwalk.
  • Boat and train: the Kozjak Lake boat and the panoramic forest train.
  • Pickup: many small-group options collect from central Zagreb hotels.

Off-season caveat: from about 1 November to 31 March only the Lower Lakes are open, and the boats and train may not run. The day is also shorter in winter.
